Indoor Football League: Team Bell remains undefeated and Team Duggan scores a huge win

March 2, 2012

Team Bell kicked clear of the competition and let it be known who is boss after two rounds of the Indoor Football League, last night. With some minor tweaks of the rules (a wrap tackle is now allowed and a kick-in instead of a centre bounce) all four teams went at it hard which was pleasing to see.

Team Bell took on an undermanned Team Yoni (OUT: Ricko –Oz, Robbo– Back) and held on to win by 15 pts, despite a late charge from Team Yoni which saw them 3pts down with two-minutes left. The omissions for Team Yoni allowed Big Butch to strap on the boots for the first time this year and he looked the goods up forward. Although It was tight early (23-20) Team Bell opened up a handy 11-pt lead by halftime. By the three-quarter time break, Bell shot out to a 14-pt lead. Team Yoni had their opportunities in the final term to get their noses in front, but couldn’t quite kick that go-ahead goal. A few costly turnovers in the back half saw Team Bell seize on those half chances and secure their second win.Great win by Team Bell, but also a fantastic effort by Team Yoni to hang in there all night and almost snatch an unlikely win.

In the other match, there was a lot of hot air and trash talk before the bounce. Team Duggan coach Jimmy, during the week had claimed “we were robbed last week”, referring to their 6pt loss. In the other corner, Team McKay’s confidence was sky high after their easy win over Team Yoni — perhaps, a touch arrogant? But once the whistle blew only one team showed up: Team Duggan. Leading from the front all night , Team Duggan notched up their first win with a 46-pt massacre over Team McKay. Team Duggan shot out of the blocks early (20-1) and by halftime the match was wrapped up with Team Duggan leading 53-11 (Did you you hear that fat lady singing?) . A tight third quarter meant not much was added to the scoreboard, but a spirited effort by Team McKay saw them outscore Team Duggan in the final quarter 13-10. But, of course, it was too late.

Great hit-out last night boys!

Here are the final scores from R2:

BELL 11.5 (71) def 8.7 (56) YONI

DUGGAN 10.11(71) def 4.1(25) McKAY

Ladder (Round2)

1. BELL 8(pts) 2-0 (W/L) 136 (F) 115 (A) 118 (%)

2. DUGGAN 4(pts) 1-1 (W/L) 130 (F) 90(A) 144(%)

3. McKAY 4(pts) 1-1(W/L) 81 (F) 105 (A) 77.1 (%)

4. YONI 0(pts) 0-2 (W/L) 90(F) 127 (A) 70.8 (%)

Team Bell moves up the ladder and sits on top undefeated with one week left to play before finals and have pretty much locked in a Grand Final berth. Team McKay needs to beat Team Bell by plenty (not likely) and will be hoping for a Team Duggan loss in order to have any chance to play in the DIV.1 Grand Final.

Plenty of scenarios here, but we’ll just have to wait and see how it unfolds next week.
