Dingos Hit the Road for a Date with the Swans

June 3, 2010

Since the Ottawa Swans were founded and began playing exhibition matches in 2007, the annual mid-season trip up the 401 has been a highlight of the OAFL regular season for the Red and Black, and has become a sort of mini-Footy Trip filled with good times and reckless debauchery.

This year looks to be no different as the Dingos prepare for another sojourn to the nation’s capital, with the main club set to take on the Swans at 2:00pm ET, following the Div 2 Rebeldogs squad taking on the Quebec Saints immediately before. The Dingos will be staying in Ottawa that night following the games, and will no doubt hit the town hard in typical Dingo fashion – though hopefully with no public urination tickets this time.

Past games against the Swans on their home ground have always been a tight affair despite the Red and White being a young club, but hopefully the Dingos will take some inspiration from the impressive display of skills by the Wellsy brothers in shots like this, or maybe from Stewy’s stalwart smothering skills (left).

Either way, the game will no doubt be a memorable one for Neil Loughlin (left), who’ll be playing in his final game as a Dingo (for 2010, at least). Neil has been one of the stronger recruits this season, with his background in Gaelic Football giving him a big leg up as a rookie player, and was present at nearly every winter session representing the Red and Black even when many veterans couldn’t find the time.

Sadly, Neil is returning to the motherland following the game against the Swans and is at the moment unsure if/when he’ll be making his return to play for the Red and Black. Despite some strong play in his first few games this season, he’s yet to pump through his first career goal, so all eyes will be on him this weekend as yet another Dingo tries to steal goals from Stewy.

‘Carn Dingos!
